Scope of work
What I can take on
- 01 I prepare a 12-month plan with the order of work, dependencies and an estimated budget.
- 02 I order the task list by impact on sales and the company's needs.
- 03 I compare the scope of quotes and the technical side of contracts, including access to code and project handover terms.
- 04 I run code reviews and stage acceptance, checking the quality of an external contractor's work.
- 05 I prepare decision options for the board with cost, risk and expected payback period.
- 06 I reserve a monthly block of time for calls and for assessing ideas before work starts.
Regular contact and periodic plan reviews
We agree on the number of hours per month and how we keep in touch. We discuss day-to-day questions in short calls, and once a quarter we go back to the whole growth plan. I update priorities and recommendations to reflect what has changed in the store and in the company.
Help with choices that have consequences
Fix the current store or rebuild it? Buy a module or build your own? Grow an in-house team or work with an agency? I also help compare changing the ERP with repairing the integration, and selling on marketplaces with growing your own channel. For each option I take into account the cost of implementation and of long-term maintenance.
A clearly defined role
In this arrangement I represent your interests in discussions with contractors. If a recommendation concerns work I could do myself, I say so and present other options. Within the same scope I don't combine doing the work with overseeing the contractor.

Questions about working together
How is ongoing support different from one-off consulting?
A one-off engagement answers a specific question and ends with a recommendation. With ongoing support I stay available for the next decisions. I know the store and earlier arrangements, so you don't have to rebuild the whole context every time.
Can this kind of support replace a CTO?
It may be enough in a company where e-commerce is one of several sales channels. With a technical team of more than a dozen people, an on-site CTO is usually needed. In that case I can help you choose one and bring them into the project.
How long do we commit for?
The minimum period is one quarter. I need time to learn the system and processes and to prepare recommendations that reflect the company's situation.
Can I stay with my current agency?
Yes. The agency keeps doing the work, and I help you assess scope, quotes and quality. I can also explain technical issues during joint meetings.
